Ipragliflozin treatment improved glycaemic control when added to metformin therapy and may be associated with weight loss and reductions in blood pressure compared to placebo. Ipragliflozin improves not only hyperglycemia but also diabetes/obesity-associated metabolic abnormalities in type 2 diabetic mice. It was approved for use in Japan in 2014.
